For this you will need Paint Shop pro 7
My betta selection files Unzip them to your selections folder
Open a new image 332X205 pixels, transparent.
Set your foreground color to #6D079D
Set your background color to #710BA1
Add a new layer, name it fin1
Selections-Load from Disk Open 1bettafish.sel from the folder you saved the selections in
Floodfill with the foreground color
Ctrl+D to deselect
Go to layers-properties and change the opacity to 75%

Add a new layer, name it finlines1.
Selections-Load from disk. Open 2bettafish.sel
Floodfill using right click to fill with the background color.
Go to effects-3d effects- inner bevel.
Use these settings. The settings for the inner bevel will be the same throughout

Ctrl+D to deselect
Go the 3d effects-dropshadow.
Horizontal and vertical-0
Opacity-25
Blur-8
The dropshadow settings will also remain the same for the rest of the tutorial

Add a new layer, name it frontfin1
Selections-Load from disk. Open 3bettafish.sel Floodfill with the foreground color
Go to layers-properties and change the opacity to 60%
Ctrl+D to deselect

Add a new layer,name it frontfin2
Selections-Load from disk. Open 4bettafish.sel
Floodfill with the foreground color
Go to layers-properties and change the opacity to 60%
Ctrl+D to deselect

Add a new layer, name it fin2
Selections-Load from disk. Open 5bettafish.sel
Floodfill with the foreground color
Go to layers-properties and change the opacity to 75%
Ctrl+D to deselect

Add a new layer, name it finlines2
Selections-Load from disk. Open 6bettafish.sel
Floodfill using right click to fill with the background color
Apply the same inner bevel
Ctrl+D to deselect
Apply the same drop shadow

Add a new raster layer, name it body
Selections-Load from disk. Open 7bettafish.sel
Floodfill with the foreground color
Selections-Float
3D effects-cutout
Use these settings
Vertical and Horizontal-0 Opacity-43
Blur-29.8
Shadow Color-Black
Fill interior-unchecked
Do this twice
Ctrl+D to deselect

This is what you should have so far:


Add a new raster layer, name it eye
Selections-Load from disk. Open 8bettafish.sel
Floodfill with #F1BD3F
Go to selections-modify-contract by 1
Floodfill with black
Ctrl+D to deselect

Add a new layer, name it gill
Load 9bettafish.sel
Apply the same cutout you used on the body
Ctrl+D to deselect
Set your foreground color to #87778D set your background color to null
Select your draw tool with these settings
Single Line, line width 1, Vector and antialias checked.
Draw a straight line starting just under the nose to make the mouth

Choose layers-convert to raster-rename this layer mouth

Set your foreground color back to to #6d079d and set your background color back to fill with the same color as before
add a new layer, name it fin3
Selections-load from disk
Load 10bettafin.sel
Floodfill with foreground color
Layers-Properties and change the opacity to 75%
Ctrl+D to deselect

Add a new layer, name it finlines3
Selections-load from disk
Load 11bettafin.sel
Floodfill using right click instead of left to fill with the background color
Apply the same inner bevel
Ctrl+D to deselect
Apply the same dropshadow
Go to layers-merge-merge visible
One last thing. Use your retouch tool with these settings:
Shape-Round
Size- 5 Hardness-47
Opacity-100 Step-25 density-100
Soften
Use it to soften the line where the back fin connects to the body
