Spell Bags are small cloth bags or pouches that are carried to attract specific energies to you. They can be used to draw things to you or for protection. The bags can either be carried with you at all times or placed somewhere relevant to the spell. For example, if you are trying to attract money, you may leave it in your purse or wallet. The bags themselves do not have to be large. Even a small pouch an inch or two in diameter, will work so long as whatever you plan to put in the bag will fit. You can buy empty bags from some occult supply shops, or make your own. If you decide to make your own, use new cloth only, not something that has been previously owned by someone else. If you can, use a natural fiber such as cotton or linen. What you put in the bag depends on what you are trying to attract. If you have herbs or wax drippings left over from a specific spell, you might add them to a bag for a full lunar cycle after the spell. This should only be done if the spell was meant to attract something to you, not for negative or banishing spells. You can also use a spell bag on its own. Cleanse the bag itself, and charge the ingredients to your specific purpose. You can do this by holding the ingredients in your dominant hand and visualizing what you want to accomplish. Since these spells are mostly for protection, you will more than likely want to do this during the waxing moon phase or on the full moon. Once the bag is closed, you can add extra power by chanting over it. Recharge the bag and replace any herbs after a month.
Below are a few “recipes” you may find useful. You can add additional things to the bags depending on what you want to accomplish. You may want to write out exactly what you wish to accomplish on a small slip of paper and add it to the bag. You can also add a rune, tarot card or symbol relating to what you need to the bag to strengthen the spell. You can also include a cord, either inside the bag or to tie the bag shut. Tie an odd number of knots in the cord while visualizing what you with to accomplish. Use plain white or a color relating to the spell.
Colors for the bag are listed. This is just a guideline. The appropriate colors can add energy to the spell The colors I have chosen relate to the specific purpose. If you don’t find the color appealing or can’t find it, you have several options. Use plain white, use a color that relates to the element rather than the specific energy or use a color that relates to your astrological sign. If none of these options appeal to you, use a color that you like, it won’t harm the spell. If you decide to carry the bag with you, try to keep it somewhere it won’t be seen by others. It can be left in a place that relates to the spell or you can leave it somewhere you feel connected to if need be, such as your altar or bedroom.
The below recipes are just guidelines. You need only a pinch of each herb and a small piece of each stone. The stones need not be polished. You don’t have to follow the recipes exactly. Substitute or omit if need be.
