This tut uses very simple vectors, it should be able to be done by beginners
as long as they have a basic knowledge
For this you will need PSP
7
Open a new image 300 X 300
Set the foreground style to null. Set the background style to solid fill,
color #A58045
Use the preset shapes tool. Set the shape to ellipse, retain style unchecked,
antialias and create as vector checked
Draw an ellipse, like this
Go to edit-copy
Edit-paste as new vector selection-like this
Layers-Convert to raster
Selections- Select all, selections-float, selections-save to alpha channel.
Name the selection Peanut1
Set the background style to null, foreground style to solid fill, color #CFB489
Use the draw tool with these settings
Type-Freehand Line
Width-1
Line Style-default (the smooth straight line)
Antialias and Create as vector checked
Close path is unchecked
Draw some lines on your peanut, like this
When you are happy with your lines, go to layers-convert to raster
Go to effects-Blur-Gaussian Blur, Use a radius of 2
Selections-Load from Alpha channel, load the peanut 1 selection you saved
earlier
Selections-invert, hit your delete key
Ctrl+ D to deselect
Change the foreground color to #7C6034
Use your draw tool, same settings as before, draw more lines, like this
Layers-Convert to raster
Effects- Blur-Gaussian Blur with a radius of 2
Selections- Load from Alpha channel, load the peanut1 selection
Selections- Invert, hit your delete key
Ctrl + D to deselect
Hide Layer 1. Make one of the other three layers active and go to layers-
merge visible. Rename the merged layer to peanut.
Go to effects-3D effects-Inner Bevel, use these settings
Selections- Select all
selections-float
Effects-3D effects- cutout, use these settings
Vertical and Horizontal-0
Opacity- 82
Blur-48.8
Shadow color- Black
Fill Interior- Unchecked
Ctrl+ D to deselect
Click on layer 1 to make it active.
Use your draw tool, same settings as before except change the line width to
5
Draw an arm, like this
Go to layers- convert to raster
Go to effects-3d effects-inner bevel and use the same settings as before
Go to layers- duplicate
Go to Image-Mirror. Position the 2nd arm on the other side of the body
Set your foreground style to null, background style to solid fill, color#920808
Use the preset shapes tool, same settings as before. Draw an ellipse
Draw a slighty smaller ellipse to make the thumb. Use the handle in the middle
to turn it to the right angle if you need to. You may want to zoom in
If you are happy with this, go to layers-convert to raster
Selections-select all. Selections-Float. Effects-3D effects- Cutout, use the
same settings as before except change the opacity to 57 and the blur to 6.3
Ctrl+D to deselect
Change the background color to white. Use the preset shapes tool, same settings
as before except change the shape to rounded rectangle. Draw a rectangle for
the bottom of the mitten. Use the handle in the center to turn it if you need
to
Layers-Convert to raster
Selections-select all, selections- float
Effects-3D effects-Cutout, use the same settings as before except change the
opacity to 33 and the blur to 6.3
Ctrl + D to deselect
Hide all layers except for the mitten and mitten trim. click on the mitten
layer and go to layers- merge visible, rename to mitten.
Turn the other layers back on.
Click on the mitten layer, go to layers-duplicate
Image-Mirror, move the duplicate layer into place over the other arm
Activate the peanut body layer. Make sure the background color is white, foreground
at null, use the preset shapes tool, set on ellipse, all other settings the
same. Draw an ellipse for the eye
Change the background color to black. Draw an ellipse inside the first one
to make the pupil
Layers- convert to raster
Layers-duplicate, move the duplicated eye in to place
Activate the peanut body layer. Use the selection tool, set on circle, feather
0 and antialias checked. Draw a small circle selection for the nose. This
may take a couple of tries to get it in the right place. When you are happy
with the selection, go to effects-3D effects-Inner Bevel and use the same
settings as before. You should have something like this
The foreground style should still be null. Set the background color to #920808.
Use the preset shapes tool, ellipse, same settings as before, draw a small
ellipse for the mouth.
Click on the selector and select the ellipse you just made. Click node edit
on the object selector. Click the top node and pull it down slightly. Click
the top of each handle of the node and pull up slightly
You can also pull the left and right node up a little to make it look more
like a smile. When you are happy with the mouth, go to layers-convert to raster
If you didn't get your mouth exactly symmetric and would like it to be, just
select the half of the mouth you think looks best, copy and mirror and delete
the half you don't like
Now for the hat. If you don't have enough room for the hat, go to image-canvas
size and make it larger. I made mine 450 X 450 for plenty of room.
With the background color the same as last time, preset shapes tool ellipse,
same as last time, draw an ellipse for the hat
Click on the object selector and choose node edit. Right click on the bottom
node, go to node edit-symmetric
Pull out on the handles
pull the top node over to the right
When you are happy with the hat, go to layers- convert to raster
Selections- Select All
Selections-Float
Effects- 3D effects- cutout, same settings as before except change the opacity
to 57 and the blur to 8
Ctrl + D to deselect
Change the background color to white, shape to rounded rectangle and draw
the trim on the hat
Layers- Convert to raster
Selections- select all, selections, float
Effects-3D effects- cutout, use the same settings as before
Ctrl+ D to deselect
Change the shape to ellipse and draw a small circle on the top tip of the
hat
Layers- Convert to raster
Selections- select all
Selections-float
Effects-3D effects-cutout, use the same settings as before
Ctrl + D to deselect
Layers- Merge Visible and you're done
